Police in London have arrested a 30-year-old man in Birmingham in connection with last week’s attack on parliament, “on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts”, the Metropolitan Police stated today.
Reuters is reporting that a police statement indicates 12 people have been arrested since Wednesday’s attack when British born Khalid Masood, 52, killed four people. Masood was also shot and killed by police during the attack. Nine of those arrested were released with no further action, the police added.
Birmingham is a central English city.
The Sun has reported that family friends indicated radicalized Muslim converted Masood and demanded his daughters become Muslims too. Before Masood went on his 82-second killing spree in Westminster, he converted his oldest daughter Andi, 24, to Islam six years ago. He separated from Jane Harvey, his former wife and his daughter Teegan. While they remained in their Tunbridge Wells home in Kent, Andi moved in “with her dad and his new partner in Luton, Beds…They later moved to Birmingham where Andi is said to have been persuaded by Masood to cover herself in a burqa.”
“Masood had changed his name from Adrian Elms after converting to Islam while in prison on remand for an alleged knife attack in 2003,” The Sun reported.
