The Greatest Graceland Fan has never been to Elvis Presley mansion in Memphis, Tennessee. But Presley’s legacy, 40 years after his death, includes having the most loyal and united fans (See the charitable contributions from the immense number of Fan Clubs below).

Music fans from around the globe visit Presley’s mansion by the millions each year. But for one of his most loyal fans ever, actually visiting Graceland is nothing more than a dream. A campaign by fellow Presley enthusiasts around the world could change that. Get ready to see the amazing power of Elvis fans as they unite to honor one of their own.

Lida Keijzer, of Veendam, Netherlands, has become a champion among legions of Elvis devotees for her dedication to the King of Rock n’ Roll through her work on arguably one of the most unique personal tributes ever—a detailed miniature Graceland she has been constructing since May 2015.

Keijzer works on an astonishing replica of Presley’s Memphis, Tennessee home saying “each day I listen to Elvis, his music, the lyrics to his songs have helped me through many areas of my life….good, and bad. Some of my favorite songs are ‘What Now My Love’, and ‘Separate Ways’. My favorite movie is Blue Hawaii. His music gave me a lot of inspiration. I often dreamed of building Graceland as a dollhouse and as you can see, I made my dream come true.”

Lida Keijzer

Keijzer’s miniature Graceland is jam-packed with attention to rigorous detail. Even Priscilla Presley, his former wife, recognized how authentic the Neo-classical dollhouse is. Graceland has been described as a Classical-Colonial Revival architectural style. Keijzer house includes such features as the traditional entrance portico with four Corinthian columns on the exterior and faithfully fabricated interiors. One room in the house includes mini Elvis jumpsuits and guitars enclosed in show cases and gold album plaques hanging on the walls. A small piano plays Elvis’ famous romantic song, “Love Me Tender.”

“There are two rooms I don’t want to make and that’s his bathroom and his bedroom, out of respect for his privacy,” Keijzer remarked. “I hear from a lot of people they’ve never seen this so full and detailed as I did.”

“I have never been to Graceland, so all of the things that I have built by hand have been researched by me through books, looking on the Internet, and pictures from around the world,” Keijzer said. “It is an ongoing process, and it is not finished, I work on some part of it every day. I have worked as much as 10 hours per day building, and designing the house. There are many nights when I go to bed I think about how I can either make a certain piece, change something that I have built or make some part better, my mind is constantly thinking about my Graceland dollhouse.”

A Go Fund Me account has been set up by Mississippi fan Kathy Savelio to send Mrs. Keijzer and her husband to Graceland from the Netherlands.

This Fundraiser is for Lida Keijzer, to be able to make her dream trip to visit Elvis Presley’s Graceland Mansion a reality. Lida and her husband live in the Netherlands and as you can imagine, that is a very expensive trip for her and her husband. Watch the video attached to this account and see how Lida has created her own Graceland replica, down to the tiniest detail ! It’s taken her 3 years of meticulious work to build her Graceland. It truly is her labor of love! So please, if you can, help her to come to Elvis’s Memphis, Tennessee home. I hope the spirit of generosity that Elvis displayed to his fans will continue on in each of us. If we can acheive the set goal, we can make it happen. I know It would mean the world to her.
Thank you for you help. Help spread the word!

The tentative itinerary (subject to donations) for Keijzer’s dream trip would include round trip flights to Groningen, Netherlands to Memphis, TN, several nights lodging at the Guest House at Graceland, two Graceland VIP Tickets, Sun Studio tour for two, and meals.

“Elvis touched each of us in a special way,” Keijzer told a group of Presley fans whose names she inscribed on her model. “We all love and miss him dearly. I am honored that each of you allowed me to write your names on my Graceland wall. Your names are forever written in the stone on my Graceland wall and in my heart. Thank you again my friends from around the world.”

“My Graceland dollhouse is completely hand made by me,” said Keijzer. “I taught myself to make things by hand. When I was younger I would see something that I liked. I would come home and try to duplicate it by myself. The items in the house are made out of wood, glass, and plastic. It measures 40” high, 48” wide, 24” deep.  It takes hours to make some of the more delicate items. It doesn’t always come out the way that I want it to on the first time, so I re-do it.”

Presley was a very charitable man. While many of his larger charitable endeavors are widely known, little is known about the extent to which Elvis gave quietly, without public recognition. Throughout his life, Elvis quietly paid hospital bills, bought homes and cars, and paid off debts for family, friends, and total strangers. Elvis never forgot what it was like to do without and enjoyed making people’s lives a little bit easier.

Paralleling Elvis’ life, little is also known of the tremendous amount in which Elvis fans and Fan Clubs raise for charity. To help celebrate and continue Elvis’ tradition, fan club members contribute their time, talents, energy, and weekends to put together fund-raisers to collect donations for the charity of their choice.

“Thank you Lida for your inspiration and love to Elvis Presley fans across the world by sharing your miniature Graceland with us,” author/writer Jack Dennis wrote to Keijzer. “Like so many others, I remain amazed at your detailed work. It is so good that sometimes I can’t determine if it is the real Graceland or your work. It’s an astonishing replica. I am proud to have been able to write about it on two occasions so millions could learn about your dedication and love for Elvis Presley. Your work is truly a labor of love.”

“Lida, I hope you are able to realize your dream,” said Betty Rosenblatt. “Anyone who has worked so hard on a Mini-Graceland without seeing the real thing certainly deserves to see Elvis’s home. Best wishes!”

Jeanette Nielsen wrote, “You deserve it so much to go to Graceland Lida. I hope from the bottom of my heart that you’ll get there. I hope all Elvis fans will stand together and help you.”

  1. What is the rough estimate on the cost of her trip to Memphis from the Netherlands might possibly be able to make it happen for her in memory of my mama Gladys Lee

    • Texasjackson | April 3, 2017 at 6:10 pm | Reply

To budget or set a goal, here is a rough estimate based on two people from Groningen, Netherlands to Memphis, TN (round trip):
      Flights: $1500 each x2 $3000
Guest House at Graceland $210 night x 5 nights $1500
2 Graceland VIP Tickets (Mansion, Planes, Auto, etc) $200
Sun Studio Tour for two $30
Food for two (breakfast, lunch, dinner) X 4 days @ $125 per day $500
      Spend money (local transportation,etc.) $300

      Total Budget $5,530

The Guest House at Graceland offers complimentary hotel/airport transfers for guests who are staying at The Guest House at Graceland. When they arrive at the Memphis International airport, they will need to go to baggage claim located on the lower level. There will be a courtesy phone there that they can use to phone our hotel for pickup. The shuttle operates from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. For return shuttle service to the airport, please sign up at the front desk.

Sun Studio runs a free shuttle bus to and from Graceland every hour on the hour. For more information on this free shuttle service, please contact Sun Studio at 1-800-441-6249.

The Guest House at Graceland does offer transportation to and from Beale Street, located 20 minutes away in downtown Memphis. We do charge a $5.00 fee plus tax each way. This is from 6:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. and our Guest House at Graceland shuttle runs every hour up until 9:00 p.m. They will need to sign up at the front desk for this service due to limited seating.

      Thank you so much!

Donnie Lee, the Go Fund Me goal is higher than the actual budget because Go Fund Me charges a % of the funds donated and also .30 centers per donation. Kathy Saveilo and Jack Dennis estimated it would require the additional amount to meet the target funds necessary to get Lida to Memphis and back. They also looked at other hotels in the area, but chose Guest House at Graceland because of the transportation savings (to-from airport, to-from Graceland, to-from Sun Studios, to-from Beale Street, etc. should they choose to go there). Since they are international guests, Guest House at Graceland made good sense logistically.
