Drake Milligan, a 2016 graduate at Legacy High School in Mansfield, Texas was as a crowd pleaser at last year’s Texas Tribute to Elvis Festival at South Fork Ranch near Dallas. He competed in the festival’s first ever Ultimate Elvis Artist competition for an opportunity to compete in the tribute contest during Elvis Week in Memphis.
Although he didn’t win the trip to Memphis, he found another way to get there. Milligan was selected to play the role of Elvis Presley in CMT’s series “Sun Records,” which debuted in February. This was especially exciting since Milligan’s passion for Elvis began at 8 years of age. He began studying his moves and style shortly after. Later he started performing for retirement homes and church groups.
TEXAS’ ULTIMATE ELVIS FESTIVAL 26th – 28th May 2017
On 26th May – 28th May 2017 the second annual Texas Tribute to Elvis festival returns to South Fork Ranch and features three days of celebrating the music and legacy of Elvis Presley. The activities include music, celebrity appearances, on-stage interviews with Elvis’ friends and an Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist contest. Three-day ticket holders can attend an after-hours party especially for them.
Cody Ray Slaughter and Ben Thompson, two stars from last year are returning as part of the scheduled entertainment. Slaughter’s voice, looks and gestures are uncanny. Thompson rocked the crowd with the most energetic ETA performance I have ever seen (and I have seen hundreds).
New this year are Dean Z (2013 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist), Shawn Klush (“Late Show with David Letterman”, Winner of BBC TV’s “World’s Greatest Elvis” and Elvis Presley Enterprises “First Ever Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist”), Kraig Parker (He has been called the ultimate image of Elvis Presley in look, voice, moves and stage presence) and Victor Trevino (Rated as one of the top Elvis Tribute Artists in the world).
Also appearing are Ciarán Houlihan (Eireann Elvis, Ireland’s award-winning Elvis tribute artist) and Ryan Pelton.
This video clip from “Sun Records” features Drake Mulligan as Elvis with Billy Gardell as Colonel Tom Parker.
The EAS Band will be the backup band for the performer and competitors. They have been the official band of Elvis Presley Enterprises/Graceland from 2006 to 2013. They are respected throughout the industry as the number one touring tribute band. Not only does EAS perform note for note duplication of Elvis’ music and concerts of over 600 songs, they also provide music of other tribute artists including: The Blues Brothers, Rod Stewart, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, The Judds, Reba McEntire, Neil Diamond, Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton, just to name a few.
This high energy band is led by drummer John Crenshaw and is based out of the greater Chicagoland area. EAS consists of a lead guitarist, drummer, bass guitarist, keyboard player, and two female vocalists. Along with the talented musicians and female singers, all band members sing which gives the feeling and excitement of being at an actual Elvis concert.
